Germany vs. the Netherlands (and in between an Austrian) PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 16 June 2006

This morning I woke up and decided to put on my orange Nike T-shirt, because it was a sunny and bright day. In addition, I wore my orange Adidas sneakers. I had no idea at this point that these decisions were more than just about color matching and comfort.

It became much clearer when a 12 year old kid was walking behind me and started yelling "oranjes buh". At first, I didn't realize what was going on or that he was actually talking to me. The Netherlands had their second game today, and I was dressed in orange. For a German, this color is as bad as red for bull. It didn't help either that my shoes said "Adidas Nederland" ... Austrians tend to be neutral, but in this case I consciously or unconsciously supported one team. ;-)
